Plastic devices such as stirrers may only be provided upon request. Beginning March 1, 2024, retail establishments are banned from distributing or providing foam PS food and beverage packaging, including containers, plates, cups, trays and clamshells (except for trays used to package raw, uncooked meat, fish, poultry or seafood) on-site and for delivery.
All foodservice packaging to be natural fiber-based and compostable. Larger items such as plates, bowls, cups and containers must also be BPI-certified.
Allows use at state-exempt locations such as hospitals, due to supply chain issues. The exemption is effective immediately and valid until 1/1/2023.
Ban on single-use plastic foodservice packaging. Note that plastic includes paper with a plastic coating or window. Meat trays and egg cartons, as well as retail sales, are included in ban. Requires reusables for on-site dining. A few products are exempt until January 1, 2023 including catering trays; clear food wrap; containers for uniquely shaped foods, i.e. cupcakes; container or trays for hot meat items like ribs or chicken; and absorbent pads.
